ASK US ABOUT BOTOX® Cosmetic!

Drs. John and Kate Schacherl are trained to administer BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dermal Fillers. Here’s why! Drs. John and Kate, as well as Dr. John’s wife, Anne, clench and grind their teeth. All three wear bite guards to protect tooth edges from wear at night. But, clenching doesn’t just occur while you sleep. And who wants to wear a bite guard during the day? So, while all three were able to spare their teeth from some wear and tear, they were interested in doing more, including reducing the sore muscles and occasional headaches that can result from clenching and grinding. For Anne, daytime clenching resulted in a root canal and crown on a lower molar she fractured by clenching and grinding. Her question to Drs. John and Kate: Will daytime clenching and grinding ruin my new crown just like it fractured my tooth? Research lead them to the American Association for Facial Aesthetics (AAFE) and its long-standing training programs for dental and medical professionals in the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic, including its use with patients with who clench and grind. Now trained in the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers for both aesthetic and dental objectives, they are pleased to offer these services to you.

Here are some of the most common questions our patients ask. If you are interested in learning more about how BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers may work for you, we’d love to have the conversation!

WHAT IS BOTOX® COSMETIC?

BOTOX® is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of both moderate to severe crow’s feet lines and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults. For patients who clench and grind, BOTOX® may temporarily relax facial muscles to relieve the pain produced by clenching and grinding, and reduce wear and tear on teeth and crowns.

WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER BOTOX® COSMETIC?

BOTOX® can improve facial aesthetics, including the appearance of wrinkles in your forehead and the corners of your mouth, crow’s feet lines, and even a gummy smile. BOTOX® may also quiet facial muscles to minimize clenching and grinding, thereby reducing damage to teeth, crowns and other dental work. WILL BOTOX® CHANGE MY FACIAL APPEARANCE? Although facial wrinkles and creases will be minimized and facial muscles may relax, BOTOX® will not markedly change your facial appearance.

WHEN WILL I NOTICE AN IMPROVEMENT OR DIFFERENCE?

Patients may notice an improvement or difference as soon as 1-2 days after injection, but it may take up to 2 weeks for some patients. HOW LONG DO BOTOX® RESULTS TYPLICALLY LAST? BOTOX® results typically last 3-4 months. WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS? Dermal fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® XC, are injectable gels used to temporarily add volume to the skin, especially around the nose and mouth.

WHO MAY BENEFIT FROM DERMAL FILLERS?

Dermal fillers can improve the appearance of parentheses lines on either side of your mouth, add volume to thin lips, and improve chin wrinkles.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS AFTER A DERMAL FILLER INJECTION? Dermal filler results are immediate. HOW LONG DO DERMAL FILLER RESULTS TYPICALLY LAST?

Dermal filler results typically last 6 months.

Presenting: Solution Reach!

Introducing Solution Reach! – Lots of Great Communication Features for Our Patients

We are excited to announce that our office has adopted a new patient communication tool called SolutionReach.

We “went live” on Monday, September 21, and by now some of you may have received appointment confirmation messages by text or email. With SolutionReach, we’ll be able to communicate with you – and you with us – in real time, real quickly! This is very cool stuff!

We look forward to implementing the SolutionReach Online BillPay Portal and Mobile App in the near future. With the Portal and Mobile App, we’ll be able to communicate with you in a secure, HIPAA (patient confidential) environment quickly and easily (think MyChart). Many of you have asked for an online billpay option, so we’re thrilled to announce that this will be available in both the Portal and App.

SolutionReach was the 2015 Pride Institute “Best of Class” Technology Award Winner. We hope you’re as excited about this as we are!

Heads Up: As we make this transition, we’ll continue to use our current patient notification system for a couple more weeks, and there may be some overlap. Please know that we don’t intent to overdo the communications, (we know this can be irritating) but there may be some redundancy for the short term.

As we add features and tools, thanks so much for your patience and feedback! This system is flexible, so if there’s something you like, let us know, and don’t hesitate to tell is if there’s something you’d like us to change. And, if you totally love getting a hard copy postcard reminder in the mail, we get it. Let us know, and they’ll keep coming.

We’re confident we can accommodate your requests! Here’s to a great new way to communicate!

Career Day

Dr. Kate has visited two local schools in the past several weeks.

In April, Dr. Kate, along with several other Mt. Horeb High School alumni, participated in Sophomore Career Day.  This was a fantastic opportunity for students to hear from local professionals about their individual career paths.  The sophomore class was broken into 6 groups that all rotated to 6 career presentations.  During each of the dental presentations, the students were given sample questions from the perceptual ability section of DAT (dental admissions test) to try and solve as a group.  The students quickly saw that being a dentist involves more than just strong math and science skills.  It was a very fun and interactive morning.  Perhaps there will soon be another Mt. Horeb High School graduate with a career in dentistry!

In May, Dr. Kate and dental assistant Amber visited 4 second grade classrooms at Verona’s Glacier Edge Elementary School.  The students were educated on proper dental health and given fun dental facts.  All of the students were very engaged and asked lots of great questions.

We enjoy getting out of the office and interacting in our local communities.  If a dental presentation would benefit a group that you know, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.
